Overview

The Cafe Attendant ensures courteous greeting of all patrons, is responsible for the daily set up and service of walk up coffee, sandwich & ice cream counters, makes sandwiches, scoops ice cream, makes coffee/espresso drinkls, sells merchandise, assists with food prep, re-stocking and cleaning. Must assist in other departments or with other job duties as requested or necessary. 

Responsibilities

  1. Arrives to work on time and in uniform.
  2. Responsible for set up, maintenance, and operation of the walk up food counter.
  3. Works the counter to make sandwiches, prep food, scoop ice cream, and serves coffee/espresso drinks.
  4. Operates the POS register system, collects currency and gives receipt with every transaction.
  5. Ensures standards of appearance and sanitation are maintained on a daily basis.
  6. Keeps all areas clean, sanitary and fully stocked. Replenishes service lines as needed.
  7. May have to stock refrigeration and/or freezer with food and beverage items.
  8. Checks supplies and prep lists and ensures all items are prepped in a timely and sanitary fashion.
  9. Follows all cleaning and safety procedures. Uses caution around machinery.
  10. Maintains proper service and cleanliness of food counter and dining area; including daily sweeping and mopping.
  11. Participates in ongoing training and the GPI sanitation program.
  12. Takes part in all sales goals and greets and informs guests of promotions.
  13. Sells merchandise from store and makes yes-yes choices available to the guest.
  14. Keeps constant vigilance of all customers and employees to ensure that store security policies are enforced.
  15. May periodically train new employees or staff from other departments.
  16. Assists in other departments, or with other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Previous café or barista experience preferred.
  • Hospitality POS (Aloha) systems experience desirable. 
  • Must have good guest service skills.
  • Must have knowledge of cash handling, making change, general accounting.
  • Strong interpersonal skills required. 
  • Must be pleasant, helpful, friendly, outgoing, enthusiastic and courteous in dealing with guests and co-workers.
  • Must be team-oriented, positive and upbeat.
  • Able to handle guest concerns in a tactful and caring manner.
  • Must be able to work varied shifts.
  • Must possess neat and pleasant grooming habits. 

Work Environment

  • Non-smoking environment
  • High volume Café in a National Park, restaurant setting.
  • Job requires constant walking, bending, the frequent use of stairs, handling, reaching, grasping, lifting 25+ lbs., and repetitive motions.
  • Position will require working in varying termpartures, including coolers and freezers.
  • Position requires flexible scheduling, including weekends, holidays, split shifts, etc.
