Overview

Assists Golf Manager is supervision of Glacier Park Lodge golf pro shop, staff of golf pro/shop hosts, ordering, inventory, cash control, and all duties and aspects of golf shop management. Ensures guests and employees receive proper assistance with golf apparel, equipment and instruction. Ensures the highest standards of quality guest service, cleanliness and adherence to GPI policies and operating procedures are met. Assists with other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  1. Arrives to work on time and in proper uniform. Models the way by exhibiting a positive can-do attitude, setting the example for staff. 
  2. In absence of Golf Manager, manages all functions of the Glacier Park Lodge Golf Pro Shop and staff. Including executing budgets and sales forecasts. 
  3. May assist with schedules for golf shop staff that ensure proper coverage. 
  4. Assigns duties and shifts to golf pro/shop hosts and observes their activities to ensure adherence to established operating procedures.  
  5. Monitors performance of staff and business levels to ensure efficiency and productivity. 
  6. Registers golfers, assigns tee times, collects fees & monies due, rents hand or motor carts, clubs, etc. Ensures green fees are paid by inspecting player registration. 
  7. Instructs novices and players who wish to improve their skill in playing golf.  
  8. Keeps log of daily activities. Is responsible for daily balancing of cash and depositing receipts. Maintains records of receipts and expenditures.  
  9. Creatively displays, promotes and sells merchandise in golf shop.  
  10. Organizes and conducts tournaments to promote golf course at Glacier Park Lodge. Represents Glacier Park, Inc. as player in any seasonal tournaments. 
  11. Obtains golf equipment, balls and supplies through proper channels. 
  12. May assist in repair of equipment, re-gripping clubs, etc.   
  13. Consults with Golf or Grounds Manager regarding maintenance of golf course and discusses reports of any unusual happenings from the groundskeepers working on the golf course.  
  14. Locates damaged or hazardous areas and requests they be marked for repair using line markers or stakes.  Reports drinking fountains out of order and other unusual circumstances such as bears on course, etc. 
  15. Maintains awareness of course usage to prevent unauthorized persons from using facilities, keeps play running smoothly and assists injured or ill players. 
  16. Prevents players from entering course beyond starting tee, advises players to speed up or slow down in order to alleviate bottlenecks, and explains rules of the game to players to settle disputes. 
  17. Monitors play and cautions players against tearing up turf or otherwise abusing course and equipment.  
  18. Protects and controls equipment and golf carts.  Returns lost equipment to pro shop. 
  19. Checks to see that benches, waste receptacles, ball washers, towels, pins (flags) are at each green or tee.  
  20. Ensures areas inside and outside/around pro shop are kept neat and clean at all times. 
  21. Enforces all Company policies and regulations. 
  22. Assists in other departments or with other job duties as requested or necessary.

Qualifications

  • 1-3 years’ golf pro/shop experience required.
  • 1-2 years’ supervisory experience preferred.
  • Previous experience organizing tournaments & events preferred.
  • Must possess the ability to lead, coach and motivate a team.
  • Experience providing golf instruction to players of varying skills & abilities required.
  • Previous merchandise display experience helpful.
  • Must possess good organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be pleasant, helpful, friendly, outgoing, enthusiastic and courteous in dealing with guests and co-workers.
  • Must be able to handle guest concerns in a tactful and caring manner.
  • Must be team-oriented, positive and upbeat.
  • Must possess neat and pleasant grooming habits.

Work Environment

  • Small golf course/golf shop environment at a historic hotel.
  • National Park setting.
  • Job requires working in outdoors, in varying temperatures/weather conditions from early morning to late evening. 
  • Non-smoking environment.
