Overview

Responsible for maintaining and increasing sales and profitability of the grocery store while ensuring the highest standards of quality service, cleanliness and adherence to GPI policies and operating procedures are met. Assists Store Manager in assuring that all sales transactions are completed in a friendly and correct manner. Assists in other duties as required.

Responsibilities

  1. Manages grocery store, performing all management functions and sales functions in absence of Manager. Responsible for profit and loss of store: a) sales; b) cost of sales; c) inventory; d) labor.
  2. Places orders and maintains adequate inventory in store by efficiently ordering from warehouse and direct vendors.
  3. May assist with planning and posting work schedules; keep time records; supervises employees to ensure efficient and productive job performance. Assign employees to tasks where best qualified.
  4. Receives and verifies all shipments from central warehouse and direct shipments to store. Verifies quantity, quality and damages, and reports all discrepancies.
  5. Is responsible for following all federal and state policies & regulations for sale of alcoholic beverages.
  6. Maintains highest quality standards in regard to alcohol sales.  
  7. Ensures that all store security policies are enforced. Confers with Location Manager to remedy security or employee problems.
  8. Displays merchandise in an appealing fashion that will tend to increase sales. Keeps displays filled and attractive.
  9. Conducts ongoing training for all employees.
  10. May have to stock refrigerators and/or freezers with food and beverage items.
  11. May require daily cleaning and sanitizing of soft-serve ice cream machine.
  12. Assists with supervision of physical inventory at mid-season and close of season.
  13. Responsible for daily balancing of cash and depositing receipts.
  14. Responsible for invoices and reports.
  15. Enforces and follows all Company policies and regulations.
  16. Assists with other responsibilities as required.

Qualifications

  • Efficient knowledge of merchandise costs, labor costs and controls.
  • Previous supervisory experience required.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills required.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to vacuum and/or mop floors on a daily basis.
  • Must be courteous and friendly in dealing with customers and co-workers.
  • Previous display experience and cash register operating experience helpful.
  • Must possess ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with all levels of management & staff.
  • Must possess ability to receive deliveries and stock shelves.
  • Successfully completes alcohol sales & service training.

Work Environment

  • National Park/Hotel environment.
  • Grocery store environment.
  • Job may require going up and down stairs on a daily basis.
  • Job requires constant standing and walking.
  • Job requires working long hours, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Non-smoking environment.
